The Story

Solanum lycopersicum

Hailing from the Isle of Krim in the Black Sea, the Black Krim Tomato is a celebrated heirloom known for its spectacular, rich flavour. The unique fruits are flattened, with a striking dark reddish-purple colour and distinct green shoulders. Beneath the delicate skin lies very juicy, solid flesh that is often tinted a beautiful green. These large tomatoes average between 227 g and 340 g in weight and 10 cm to 13 cm in diameter, making them perfect for slicing.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow

As an indeterminate (vining) plant, Black Krim requires support and will produce fruit continuously until frost.

Sow Indoors: Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected frost date. Plant in sterile, high-quality seed-starting mix.

Sow Outdoors: In longer season climates, sow directly outdoors in late May or early June.

Germination: Seed typically germinates in 7 to 14 days.

Transplanting: Move seedlings outdoors to a location with Full Sun and rich, well-drained soil only after all danger of frost has passed and night temperatures are consistently warm.

Planting Depth: 6 mm

Seed Spacing: 45 cm

Thin to: 60 cm

Row Width: 75 cm

Provide a tall, sturdy cage or stake, as this variety averages 150 cm tall and produces heavy fruit. Keep the soil consistently moist for best results.

Approx. 30 seeds/pkt
