DETAILED DESCRIPTION

We are very pleased to be introducing this wonderful new rose to mark the centenary of the birth of one of our best-loved authors. 'Roald Dahl' is a remarkably free-flowering variety with flowers of a perfect peach colouring. The young buds are a beautiful soft orange-red, the red reminiscent of the blush found on an actual peach. When fully open, they form medium-sized, cupped rosette blooms which are produced almost continuously. Despite their delicate appearance, they are robust enough to withstand even the most inclement weather our climate may throw at them. They have a lovely medium strength Tea fragrance with leafy elements and dark fruit notes.

GROWTH HABIT

Over time it matures into a very attractive, rounded, bushy shrub with mid-green foliage and few thorns. Overall, this is a charismatic rose that will be a valuable addition to any garden.

Standard Roses are magnificent garden plants. They are created by budding three shrubs on a stem; hence the dramatic effect. We believe English Roses, with their natural, bushy growth and beautiful, fragrant flowers, are the finest roses for growing as standards.

Tree roses are ideal for creating focal points in key areas of the garden and can also be used to line a path, frame a doorway or bring interest to a bare wall. Standards are useful for adding height to a border and look particularly impressive when planted closely together in groups of three or four. It is important to stake standards at planting time, to assist the stem in holding up the bounty of full sized blooms all summer. All are budded at 36" in height.

ORIGINS OF THE NAME

This variety was named with the approval of Roald Dahl's wife, Felicity Dahl, to highlight Roald's love of gardening. The colour of the rose immediately brought to mind the eponymous peach in James and the Giant Peach, one of Roald Dahl's best-loved novels. Throughout 2016, there will be many celebrations for Roald Dahl 100 including the launch of this new rose named in his honour.
