Inflated orange-red seed pods resembling Chinese lanterns develop late in the summer and are excellent for use in fresh and dried arrangements. The colorful “lanterns” develop as a papery husk or the ripening berries. Flowers are white and rather inconspicuous. Cut stems when “lanterns” reach full color; dry by hanging small clusters upside down in a dry, shady location.
