The Story

Calendula officinalis

  • Heirloom
  • Perennial
  • Fragrant
  • Prolific bloomer
  • Cutting flower
  • Easy to grow
  • Attracts bees and pollinators
  • Edible Garden
  • Apple scented.
  • Deer resistant
  • Drought tolerant
  • Pineapple-like flavor

Preparation Ideas: To make herbal tea, first, harvest the flower heads and let them dry in a cool and dry place for a few days. Once they are properly dried, store them in an airtight container. To prepare the tea, take 4-8 gr (1-2 tsp.)of the dried flowers and steep them for about 5 minutes in hot water. This will give you a soothing cup of chamomile tea.

German Chamomile is a sweetly scented, multi-branched plant with finely cut leaves. The daisy-like flowers have yellow centers and white ray petals making this herb attractive enough for the flower garden! Cut foliage anytime for scenting purposes. The dried flowers are used in Chamomile tea.

135mg (approx. 850-950 seeds)

INSTRUCTIONS

Chamomile seeds can be sown directly into the garden when the soil is warm and all danger of frost is passed. Soil temperature (not air temperature) should be warmer than 7°C (45°F) for seeds to germinate. Planting at a lower temperature will delay germination.

Planting Depth: 3mm (1/8")                                                                                             Seed Spacing: Sow chamomile seeds roughly 2.5 cm (1") apart in rows, keeping rows approximately 30 cm (12") apart.                                                                                           Plant Spacing: 30 cm (12")
