The Story

Brassica oleracea

  • Heirloom
  • Slightly sweeter and more delicate than curly kale
  • A tasty and healthy ingredient in soups and salads.
  • 10 - 14 days to germination
  • 30 - 60 days to maturity

Produces 8 x 25 cm (3 x 10?) long dark blue-green leaves with an embossed texture. Popular in Italian cuisine, its taste is slightly sweeter and more delicate than curly kale. Flavor is enhanced by frost.

1.5g (approx. 400-425 seeds)

INSTRUCTIONS

Sow seed direct into the garden after danger of frost has passed. For an earlier crop, start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost.

Planting Depth: 1.3 cm (1/2")

Seed Spacing: 1.3 cm (1/2")

Plantling Spacing: 60 cm (24")

Row Spacing: 60 cm (24")

    SUGGESTIONS

Make several pickings during season for abundant crop before hot weather. Sow again in midsummer for fall crop. A light fall frost makes the pleasant flavor of the leaves even better. Bake them for tasty chips.
