PINEAPPLE LILY

This perennial produces dense racemes of starry rose-pink flowers, opening from dark purple buds in mid to late summer. At the tip of the spike sits a rosette of young leaves similar to those of pineapples, hence the common name of Pineapple Lily. The plant is native to South Africa and is a deciduous bulbous perennial used as an ornamental plant. The plant reaches 30-60 cm in height, with a basal rosette of wavy leaves 30-50 cm long. It is a great addition to the landscape or containers where it provides vertical dimension and interest with its strange appearance and unique, restful flower color. It is deer resistant, pest free and ridiculously easy to grow.
