Brassica oleracea var. sabellica

Organic kale seeds

Handsome heirloom known for its blue-green crinkled leaves, tender texture and sweet flavor. Delicious in salads, for sauteed greens, soups, or braised with garlic and olive oil. Kale's flavor is best in cool weather; mature plants handle frost well for extended harvesting.

Light Full sun
Row Spacing 18 inches
Plant Spacing 12 inches
Planting depth 1/2 inch
Days to germination 7-10
Plant Height 2.5-3 feet

Gardener's Notes: In early spring, sow directly in the garden in well worked, fertile soil. Space seeds 2 in. apart and 1/2 inch deep, with rows 18 in. apart. Keep soil evenly moist. When seedlings are 2-3 inches tall, thin to 1ft. apart so plants have room to grow and mature. Mulch well to retain moisture. When plants have 6 to 8 leaves, begin harvesting outer leaves at plant base. Sow again in late summer for another cold-hardy, tender-sweet crop.
