The Story

Alpina Stolwijk Gold

The Alpina Stolwijk's Gold has striking golden foliage and mid to light blue bell shaped flowers. Alpinas perform well in light conditions ranging from bright shade to hot sun. Also, they can be used as a climber, rambler or ground cover. Their delicate flowers are followed by attractive seed heads. These attributes make this hardy species one of the easiest and most versatile types of clematis to grow. Pruning group A.

C. Alpina
This species orginiation in Europe and Northern Asia is one of the hardiest and easiest to grow. The flowers, on the long stalks, have four sepals about 1.5" wide, with white stamens and hang downward like small bells. All the alpinas are well suited to a north facing, or cool shaded area of the garden. They will also do well with more sun and light. The blooms appear in April and May, followed by attractive seed heads.
