The Story
Calendula officinalis
This is a colourful mix of yellow, orange, and cream blooms of various sizes, some single and some double blooms, truly giving a feeling of a 'sweet sunrise' in the garden. The high resin content in these flowers makes them an excellent medicinal variety for making teas, creams, salves and tinctures. Calendula offers an intoxicating aroma, attracts a wide range of beneficial insects, and the fresh petals are delightful in a salad.
Direct seed in early spring or start seedlings for a later transplant. 12" between plants, 36" between rows. For a new flush of fall blooms, either sow later until early summer, or try a heavy pruning on some of your plants in mid-summer to give new growth.
